What is Vaser 360?

The ideal of Vaser 360 is to create the symmetric torso. Liposculpture should be thought of as a unit, not as separate sections. Would you lipo the abdomen and leave the flanks (love handles)? What about the back and sacrum (s-curve)? The true beauty and art of this procedure lies in the symmetry of the entire torso coming together showing shape, line, form and shadow. The provider should be able to show both negative and positive spaces that make up a more athletic body habitus. Contouring should be showing a 360-degree shape

Patient Testimonial

“From start to finish, Dr. Bertolino was transparent, patient, well-informed, and friendly. He thoroughly explained the steps of the procedure as well as any possible negative outcomes, even those that were statistically very unlikely to happen. Not only did he walk through each step with me, he had visual aids that helped me as a potential patient understand exactly what would be happening to my body. I particularly enjoyed how warm Dr. Bertolino and his wife are. Even though it is a voluntary operation, it’s a very anxiety-inducing situation, and he and his wife made sure to mitigate that anxiety with their beautiful warm personalities and extensive knowledge.

The first part of my operation was the Vaser Liposculpture. Based on online testimonies and personal experience, I would confidently say that Vaser is a better and more convenient procedure when compared to traditional liposuction (that is, for those who aren’t looking for weight loss, rather a tightening of their bodies like a smaller waist, a flatter torso, etc). The procedure left virtually no scars, had immediate results that are only getting better over time (!!!), and had me back on my feet within a week.

The second part of the procedure for me was a fat transfer to the buttocks. While a little more painful than the liposculpture, it was overall a very quick procedure that also had immediate results. Dr. Bertolino’s method of fat transfers aren’t like the violent transfers normally seen with other plastic surgeons. With a smaller cannula and a softer touch, the doctor gently transfer the fat to your desired area, taking special care not to inject the fat below your muscle (which is really bad). To ensure that the maximum amount of cells survive the transfer, Dr. Bertolino puts in about 50% more fat than required for your desired look and has you avoid sitting on your bottom for a minimum of 2 weeks using a special pillow. While slightly inconvenient, following those instructions gave me the results I was looking for (aka a very nice bottom!).

Post-op, Dr. Bertolino makes sure you have a way to always contact him and checks in with you at his office once a week to ensure that the healing process is moving along well. Overall, I have had the best experience I could’ve imagined and would recommend Dr. Bertolino 110%.”

Can a machine contour a person?

Do not be fooled by meaningless terms. The fact is only a human can contour (or sculpt) another human, no machine or technology can do this. Technology is a tool only. Contouring is a learning curve and a form of art. It is the suction cannula and the providers hands that shape and form, much like clay, stone or marble to the artist. Don’t be fooled by advertising.

Why is Vaser Liposculpture Better?

In my opinion, knowing this machine for 11 years, it helps gently break subcutaneous fat cells up, making extraction through suction easier with no pain. It also does not kill the stem cell, so the fat can be effectively transferred to another viable area of the body (i.e. Brazilian butt lift). Vaser is ultrasound which is gentle and effective to get the job done.

NEW Power Assisted Microaire Liposuction

Power assisted liposuction is a minimally invasive way to break up subcutaneous fat cells using an “oscilating cannula”. Microaire’s smooth reciprocating precision cannulas glide through subcutaneous tissue reducing physical effort on both the physician and the patient and decreasing procedure time. The faster procedure causes less fatigue and more precise outcomes even through dense fibrous tissue. There are a variety of cannulas to help effectively shape and contour the patient. If the fat is to be transplanted after harvesting, the adipose cells captured are more intact and have a much better chance of survival. There is no heat involved and the patient need not worry about burns that can happen with a laser. There is also less bruising. This will at times be used in combination with our Vaser Ultrasound assisted liposuction device for better sculpting and a much better overall outcome.

Is Liposculpture the same as Liposuction?

VASER Hi-Definition Liposculpture is an advanced liposuction technique that removes both deep and superficial fat to enhance the visibility of well-toned muscles, creating a sculpted, fit appearance in its patients. The best candidates for this procedure are fit men and women who wish to accentuate their muscular features.

The VASER Hi-Definition Liposculpture procedure involves liposuction using ultrasound around muscle groups such as the abdomen, hips and flanks, upper back, breasts, bra roll, arms, pectorals, glutes and legs.

Like earlier forms of liposuction, the Hi-Definition VASER instrument used during surgery also liquefies the undesirable fat deposits. The difference between the previous generations of VASER and the latest version is the ability of the surgeon to target specific fat layers for removal. By focusing more on the superficial areas (those closer to the surface of the skin), the surgeon has more control over the appearance of the final results — hence “sculpting.”

Because VASER Hi Definition Liposculpture is designed to be more of a “sculpting” technique and less of a “debulking” technique, the ideal patient has good muscle tone without a lot of fat or loose skin. They typically work out 4 to 6 times per week, yet are unable to develop that “washboard” look that occurs in individuals with a very low percentage of body fat.

VASER Hi-Definition Liposculpture can provide the desired athletic look through the removal of both deep and superficial fat, revealing the detail of the underlying muscle.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage Massage w/ Lipo Procedure

A Manual Lymphatic Drainage Massage will be built into each liposculpture treatment four days after each procedure. Why? MLD will help you with swelling and discomfort, as well as improve your results post procedure. No other plastics practice in Buffalo, NY offers this. It will provide faster healing with less pain, improving your quality of life. MLD is a “light touch” massage meant to stimulate the lymph system which is the body’s drainage system. The procedure lasts about an hour.

Liposculpture FAQs

Liposculpture is the sculpting or shaping of subcutaneous fat. It requires both the permanent removal as well as shaping of existing fat cells. The procedure is based on the anatomic lines and structure of the the male and female body habitus. Some what like an artist who uses clay or manlike to shape and create an anatomic human form.

Firstly, liposculpture using the Vaser Hi Def ultrasound system, gives the physician the ability to remove both deep and superficial fat cells. Unlike standard liposuction, which only removes deep tissue. The object of removing, and sometimes leaving both superficial and deep fat cells, is to create true anatomical lines and shadows. Anatomic lines are formed thru manipulation of the skin, to create the male / female form.

Standard liposuction only removes volume and cannot create shape. It is traumatic, with long periods of downtime, and must be done under general anesthesia. Vaser Hi Def ultrasound uses sound waves to fracture the fat cells, which can gently be removed with suction under mild sedation. Once fat cells are removed, they cannot return but can be used to enhance volume in other areas, like the buttock, adding to the process of creating a dynamic anatomical form. It was thought that removing fat can cause cells to migrate to other areas of the body. This has been totally disapproved by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.

Remember, standard liposuction takes a body and decreases volume only making it smaller. Vaser Hi-Def takes a body and creates dynamic, anatomical shaping with both line and form.

Remember there are two different types of fat. Visceral fat, which is internal fat that lies over abdominal organs. Visceral fat is lost through diet, exercise and lifestyle modification. Fat to be removed and sculpted is subcutaneous fat that lies over muscles and tendons. Subcutaneous fat is due in part to genetics and gender (male vs female). It responds well to shaping. So the simple answer, is yes, you can gain weight if you’re not careful and make poor lifestyle choices.

Not at all. Remember cellulite is a female problem, based on female hormones and the superficial skin structure. It can be temporarily improved with other modalities, but liposculpture would not be one of them. If you have any other questions, feel free to contact us directly!

Vaser Hi Def liposculpture is classified as a minimally invasive procedure which requires mild oral sedation and virtually no real down time.

Pain is a subjective thing and most people respond well using only Advil or Tylenol post procedure. Pain medications can be given for a day or two depending on a person’s pain tolerance. You must wear a body compression garment for 3-4 weeks to assist with shin remodeling and edema, but you can resume exercise in 3-4 days.

Costs vary depending on how many areas are involved. Costs can be financed if need be but all balances are due the day of service. Follow ups are included, as are pictures over preceding 4-5 months. Contact us today for more exacting pricing for what you are looking to have done.

Liposuction FAQs

Liposuction is not meant as a weigh-loss procedure; it is a body-contouring procedure. In fact, removing too much fat in one procedure can actually be dangerous for a person. So, the ideal candidate for liposuction is near his or her ideal weight, but has pockets of unwanted fat that are almost impossible to effectively target with dietary changes or exercise. These stubborn pockets are the target of Dr. Bertolino and liposuction.

Also, skin elasticity is important. The best liposuction patients have skin that still has good elasticity. This is important for the skin to tighten down to its new contours after some of the underlying fat has been removed.

Good candidates also need to be in basic good health and able to tolerate the procedure.

As mentioned above, the total amount of fat removed is the barometer. The number or size of the areas treated isn’t as important as the amount of fat removed. The maximum amount of fat removed in a single procedure is about 6-8 pounds.

Other than the usual preparations prior to surgery, there isn’t really anything necessary to prepare for liposuction. After arriving for your procedure, we’ll map out the target areas with a marker. Then we’ll inject the tumescent solution, which includes saline solution, lidocaine, and epinephrine. After that is injected, you’re ready for the procedure.

The time involved with liposuction varies depending on what areas you are having treated. You may be in our facility for from 3-5 hours, but your actual liposuction usually takes around two hours. It can take longer, however. We’ll usually release you to go home about 30 minutes after your procedure.

If you have a sedentary/desk job, you can return to work in usually two days. The same is true for your typical activities. You should use some common sense with how hard you exercise for a few days, but you’ll be surprised at how quickly you’re back to normal. Most patients can drive one day after their procedure, although this may be a little longer if you’ve had multiple areas treated and have more residual soreness.

The real risk involved with liposuction is removing too much fat in one session. Dr. Bertolino is careful monitoring how much fat is being removed. If necessary, he’ll advise that you have two separate procedures if you seek to remove more fat. Overall, tumescent liposuction is a very safe procedure. The lipocaine acts as local anesthetic, and the epinephrine constricts bloods vessels to minimize bleeding and subsequent bruising. Liposuction is year in and year out one of the top two or three most popular cosmetic surgeries in the U.S.; it has a long track record of safety and patient satisfaction.

You will have some post-operative swelling. This will mask your results to a degree. But with the minimal incisions and “open drainage” technique usually used, any swelling should resolve within about 4-8 weeks. At that point, your results will be fully visible, although your skin will still probably tighten down to its new contour for a little longer. These timeframes are highly variable, based on the areas you had treated, your individual healing rates, and the like.
