What is Restylane?

Facial fillers offered by Smooth Solutions Medical Aesthetics in Williamsville, NY that are more compliant with facial expressions and look more natural. Great for lips, cheeks, nasolabial folds, and under eyes.

Who is a good candidate for Restylane?

The question of whether you’re a candidate for a dermal filler, such as Restylane®, or a neuromodulator, such as Botox®, is the kind of wrinkles you want to target. If your wrinkles and lines occur on the upper third of your face, they are likely due to muscle contractions under the skin when you make expressions such as frowning, showing surprise, or squinting. These are known as dynamic wrinkles. Over time, repeated muscle contractions begin to form wrinkles on the skin above them. These are crow’s feet, the 11s between your eyebrows, and forehead lines. Dermal fillers have no effect on dynamic wrinkles.

However, if your wrinkles and creases are always on display — things like laugh lines, barcode lines around your lips, parentheses lines, and areas of volume loss such as the cheeks — then the fillers in the Restylane® line at Smooth Solutions are the answer. This type of wrinkle is known as a static wrinkle. Static wrinkles are the result of sun damage, declining collagen production, environmental factors, and personal habits such as smoking. Botox® has no effect on static wrinkles — they are the domain of Restylane® dermal fillers.

What are the different types?

Restylane Lyft

For wrinkle reduction and more fullness in the cheeks. Lyft helps reduce signs of aging and adds a more youthful look on the face.

Restylane Silk

Restylane® Silk was the first dermal filler approved by the FDA specifically for the lips. It is used for subtle lip enhancement and for the correction of vertical lip lines, colloquially known as barcode lines. It provides results for around six months.

Restylane Defyne

For more volumizing to lips, smile lines, cheeks, and naolabial folds. Defyne uses the new Xpres Han technology to give more flexibility to the face for a more natural look.

Restylane Refyne

Refyne is thinner great for smokers lines and tear troughs around eyes. Refyne uses the new Xpres Han technology to give more flexibility to the face for a more natural look.

How do I choose the right Restylane filler for my needs?

Each of the Restylane® fillers has been created to target a specific area of the face or specific creases. For instance, Silk was developed specifically for lip augmentation and barcode lines above the upper lip. In fact, Silk was the first dermal filler approved specifically for the lips when the FDA approved it in 2015. Lyft was created for returning volume to sunken cheeks.

What are the side effects with Restylane fillers?

Because Restylane® is made primarily with hyaluronic acid (which occurs naturally in the human body), allergic reactions are almost unheard of. The common side effects with all dermal fillers are swelling, redness, pain, bruising, tenderness, and itching at the injection sites after your session. Some patients have been known to develop headaches for the first day or two, but this is rare. These side effects are typically mild but may last for up to a week when treating smile and marionette lines. On the lips, they may last 10-14 days.

Occasionally, lumps will form at the injection sites. This is rare, but if it happens, they can be quickly resolved by an injection of hyaluronidase. This is an enzyme that instantly degrades the hyaluronic acid, eliminating the lump.

What’s most important with the use of dermal fillers or neuromodulators is the experience of the injector. Dr. Bertolino has extensive training with all of these injectables, so you can be sure you’ll get the results you’re seeking.

There isn’t any downtime with any Restylane® filler.

Patient Testimonial

“Dr. Bertolino has been treating me for about two years. He takes the time to listen to your concerns and has reasonable solutions. You never get the feeling that he is trying to “sell you something “ He actually cares that the services he provides is helping you. And it has helped me. I appreciate his approach and his solutions.”

Can I combine different Restylane fillers in one session?

The six dermal fillers that now make up the Restylane® line — Restylane®, Silk, Kysse, Lyft, Refyne, and Defyne — are not exclusive. They can be injected into different areas without any concern. For instance, Dr. Bertolino may inject Restylane® Defyne for deep marionette lines and nasolabial folds, and then he can add volume to your cheeks in the same session with Restylane® Lyft.

How long will the results from Restylane fillers last?

Each of these fillers has different durations for the results they provide. One note here, as well. Every person’s metabolism varies, and that metabolism directly affects the duration of your results. Also, the location of the injections affects duration. Generally, the more an area moves the shorter the duration of your results. Lip injections with Silk won’t last as long as Lyft injections in the cheeks. This is because there is so much more movement of the lips and mouth area than there is in the cheeks.

These are the general durations of the results, although these can vary:

  • Restylane — 6-9 months
  • Silk — 6 months
  • Kysse — up to 12 months
  • Lyft — 12 to 18 months
  • Refyne — up to 12 months
  • Defyne — up to 12 months

How soon will it take to see the results after my Restylane injections?

These are instant results. As soon as Dr. Bertolino injects whichever Restylane® filler the two of you have chosen, the hyaluronic acid in the filler binds with nearby water molecules, instantly hydrating, plumping, and firming the area and erasing the line or crease or returning volume to sunken areas.

This contrasts with the neuromodulators we offer, as they take around 3 to 4 days to fully relax the injected muscle.

Will my Restylane results look natural?

Restylane® fillers have been injected millions of times over the past 15+ years all around the world. There isn’t any way those kinds of numbers could have occurred if Restylane® didn’t deliver the results patients expect. No one wants to look bloated or oddly filled, and these hyaluronic acid fillers don’t do that. They naturally bind with water molecules to simply return volume to areas that have lost volume and have either allowed creases and lines to form or have sunken and flattened.

Also, Galderma continues to add technology, such as XpressHAn Technology in Restylane® Kysse that allows the filler to move naturally in the lips by seamlessly integrating into the tissue.
