What are photofacials?

Dr. Jack Bertolino of the Williamsville, NY area is a dermatologist in the community who serves patients in his practice, Smooth Solutions Medical Aesthetics. He understands that everyone’s skin is different and requires different care based on their unique situations. When patients want to improve their facial skin’s overall texture and tone, while treating sun-damaged skin and improving its appearance, he may recommend a treatment known as a photofacial.

Understanding the photofacial

With the assistance of our team at Smooth Solutions Medical Aesthetics, patients can treat damaged, red skin with photofacials. Photofacials are facial treatments that are administered by providing intense pulsed light, or IPL, that penetrates deep into the skin. In doing so, it provides thermal energy that can stimulate the production of new collagen. Age spots (or sun spots) are gradually faded, and the skin will appear invigorated and refreshed. Several treatments are needed to achieve optimum results, but the dramatic improvements are easy to see!

What can photofacials treat?

There are many conditions that can be treated with IPL photofacials, including:

  •         Large pore size
  •         Sun-damaged skin
  •         Poor skin texture and tone
  •         Fine lines and wrinkles
  •         Facial redness (including rosacea)
  •         Hyperpigmentation
  •         Freckles
  •         Dull skin complexion and appearance

How long do photofacial treatments last?

Most patients who are having the facial skin treated with photofacials will find that IPL photofacial treatments last less than an hour. Patients are advised to start with a few photofacial sessions spaced about three weeks apart to see how the skin reacts to the treatments and determine if the results patients want to achieve occur. More or less may be recommended depending on the severity of the conditions patients would like to address.

Am I a candidate for photofacials?

Patients who want to improv the skin’s overall appearance while addressing problems such as redness, pigmentation, and aging skin may be considered a viable candidate for this or other skin treatments available at Smooth Solutions Medical Aesthetics.
