Understanding hyperhidrosis

Hyperhidrosis is a condition that can be extremely embarrassing for patients. While it is perfectly normal to sweat in high temperatures and during exercise, other patients may deal with sweating regardless of what they are doing and how warm it is. This sweating affects 2-3% of the general population and can occur:

  • In the underarms
  • On the palms
  • On the soles of the feet

What can be done about hyperhidrosis?

Patients who struggle with hyperhidrosis on a regular basis are often curious to learn about the treatment options available to them. Below are just a few of the more common treatments used at Smooth Solutions Medical Aesthetics may suggest for individuals in the practice:

  • Topical products. There are many over-the-counter and prescription strength antiperspirants that are available to patients to choose from to reduce sweating. Many of these work for patients with mild hyperhidrosis and are used each day to control perspiration.
  • Injections. Some patients choose to use Botox or Dysport injections. These neuromodulators can significantly reduce sweating under the arms for several months before reinjection is needed. This treatment needs to be done regularly to maintain results.
  • Vaser treatment. We also offer a permanent solution to hyperhidrosis with Vaser treatment. The sweat glands are destroyed and then liposuctioned out. Minimal pain is experienced and some patients choose to have oral sedation during their procedure.

Treatment for hyperhidrosis with Vaser

Patients who have been diagnosed with hyperhidrosis understand how it can negatively impact their lives. This condition, which is referred to as “excessive sweating,” can cause both men and women to feel extremely self-conscious in everyday situations. No one likes to sweat through their clothes, even after applying antiperspirants. Hyperhidrosis can negatively impact one’s everyday life, ruining not only their clothes, but their confidence. With Vaser treatment at Smooth Solutions Medical Aesthetics, patients with hyperhidrosis can find permanent relief of their sweating symptoms!

Vaser hyperhidrosis treatment

The Vaser treatment available at the practice of Dr. Jack Bertolino ensures that men and women find a permanent solution to sweating through their favorite clothes! This treatment uses ultrasonic energy that is administered to the underarms to stop the activity of the sweat glands underneath the skin’s surface. With only local anesthetics, Dr. Jack Bertolino can help patients achieve long-lasting results that outlast Botox injections. A very small incision is made in the underarm, and the Vaser wand  is inserted through it to apply ultrasonic energy to treat the axillary sweat glands. Within 24 hours, most patients can resume their normal activities, while feeling more confident with their condition.

Why choose Vaser treatment?

There are many other methods of treatment available for patients with hyperhidrosis. In many cases, patients with mild cases can use medications or special antiperspirants for noticeable results. However, severe cases of hyperhidrosis requires a more aggressive treatment to see changes. While Botox injections have been used in the past for treating hyperhidrosis, the results of these injections are not nearly as long-lasting as those achieved with Vaser treatment.

Why You Don’t Need to Sweat the Small Stuff: Vaser for Hyperhidrosis

With summer just about here, you probably have a list of things you want to do; go on some new hikes, try some new places for brunch, spend time by the pool, and have some friends over for a barbecue may be a few of the fun things that you have at the top of your list. And although all of those things are fun, if you suffer from a condition like hyperhidrosis or excessive sweating— all of those fun scenarios can suddenly turn into something a bit more embarrassing. Here at our office, Dr. Jack Bertolino and his staff have got you covered with a treatment called Vaser.

What’s Vaser?

Vaser initially gained popularity as a body contouring procedure. However, here at our office, we use it for more than just body contouring— we use it to treat patients with hyperhidrosis. Vaser uses ultrasound technology to break up unwanted fatty sweat gland tissues that contribute to your excessive and incessant sweating. Once the fat has been broken up, it is liquefied and then sucked out with a device called a cannula.

Why Not Just Get Botox?

You may be surprised to learn that Botox is another alternative to treat hyperhidrosis. Botox works to temporarily block the nerve signals that stimulate your sweat glands. And although Botox can be effective in treating hyperhidrosis, the only problem is that it’s temporary whereas Vaser is permanent.

If it seems like you are constantly having to change your shirt because of excessive sweat or if you get embarrassed all of the time by the amount of sweat you have on your clothes, then you may have a condition called hyperhidrosis. Luckily, Dr. Jack Bertolino can help you find permanent relief from this condition so that you can live a more normal, confident life.

Get Rid of Excessive Sweating

Sweating after running a big race or taking a spinning class is one thing, but excessive sweating for no rhyme or reason may be due to a condition called hyperhidrosis. Not only is hyperhidrosis embarrassing, but it can be a nuisance as well. If you suffer from excessive sweating— especially under your arms—  you are not alone. In fact, it is estimated that around 2-3% of Americans suffer from this conditions. Luckily, we have a solution for you.

How Can Hyperhidrosis Be Treated?

Hyperhidrosis can be treated with a variety of treatments including Botox, but here at our office, Dr. Jack Bertolino likes to use a treatment called Vaser. To start out, we will fill the underarm area with a saline solution which numbs the area and shrinks the blood vessels. Then, a small Vaser probe will release sound technology into the sweat gland tissues to destroy them while also breaking up unwanted fatty tissues without damaging surrounding tissues. Once the probe is injected, the fat liquefies and dissolves into a tumescent solution. After which, small cannulas are inserted through a small incision to help remove the sweat gland and fat which reduces sweating.

Why Get Vaser Instead of Botox?

Although Botox is effective, it only lasts about 3-4 months on average. The biggest benefit of Vaser is that it’s permanent, which means you won’t have to worry about scheduling Botox injections every couple of months.

Does Vaser Hurt?

One of the biggest questions that we get from our patients is whether or not Vaser hurts. Luckily, pain from Vaser is minimal.
