VASER Liposculpture vs. Traditional Liposuction

Cropped shot of a woman's body after VASER liposculptureVASER Hi-Definition liposculptureĀ and traditional liposuction both remove unwanted subcutaneous fat, but they aren’t designed for exactly the same goal. Traditional liposuction generally focuses on reducing localized volume, while VASER liposculpture is specifically meant to create more detailed anatomical lines and muscular definition.

Dr. Jack G. BertolinoĀ performs liposculpture atĀ Smooth Solutions Medical AestheticsĀ in Williamsville, NY. A board-certified family physician with a background in cosmetic and functional medicine, Dr. Bertolino has extensive experience using this technology for precise body contouring.

How Does Traditional Liposuction Work?

Traditional liposuction removes fat through a thin tube called a cannula. By moving the cannula beneath the skin and applying suction, the clinician can reduce deposits that haven’t responded to diet and exercise.

Its central goal is volume reduction. It can make an area smaller, but it may not provide the degree of detailed contouring needed to emphasize muscle borders or create an athletic-looking torso.

What Makes VASER Different?

VASER uses ultrasound energy to loosen unwanted fat before it’s extracted with suction. This allows the provider to work with both deeper fat and more superficial layers near the skin.

Carefully removing or preserving fat in selected areas can create anatomical lines, shadows, and transitions. Rather than treating the abdomen, flanks, or back as isolated zones, VASER 360 considers how the entire torso fits together.

Which Treatment Offers More Definition?

VASER Hi-Definition liposculpture is generally the more sculpting-focused option. It may be used around muscle groups in the abdomen, hips, flanks, upper back, arms, pectoral area, glutes, and legs.

Traditional liposuction may be appropriate when the main objective is reducing a larger pocket of unwanted fat. VASER is often considered when you’re already relatively fit and want to reveal more of the muscle tone beneath a thin layer of stubborn fat.

Neither procedure is a weight-loss treatment. Visceral fat surrounding the internal organs can’t be extracted through liposuction and instead responds to nutrition, exercise, and other lifestyle changes.

What About Recovery?

Swelling, bruising, soreness, and temporary activity restrictions can occur after either procedure. Your experience will depend on the number of areas treated, the extent of fat removal, and whether another service is performed at the same time.

Smooth Solutions includes a manual lymphatic drainage massage four days after each liposculpture session. This light-touch massage is intended to support the body’s drainage process while addressing postoperative swelling and discomfort.

Find the Best Option for Your Goals

The right choice depends on whether you mainly want less volume or more detailed definition. Your muscle tone, skin elasticity, fat distribution, and expectations also matter.

Dr. Jack Bertolino can evaluate these factors and discuss VASER liposculpture at Smooth Solutions Medical Aesthetics in Williamsville, NY. You canĀ schedule an appointmentĀ online or speak with the office at 716-633-6100.
