How does IPL work?
Intense pulsed light treatment works by penetrating deep within the skin’s layers with heat energy that stimulates the skin’s natural production of collagen and elastin. In doing so, this firms the skin, reduces wrinkles, and improves texture and tone. The entire process is done quickly in the dermatologist’s office with minimal pain and discomfort.

What can I expect from my IPL appointment?
When patients arrive at Smooth Solutions Medical Aesthetics for their IPL treatment, they will be seated in a comfortable treatment chair in the examination room. The face is cleansed to remove impurities and makeup. A specialized cooling gel is then applied to the treatment area and dark glasses are provided to protect the eyes. For patients with low pain tolerance, a numbing cream may also be administered onto the skin. The IPL handpiece is then placed on the skin and moved around the face as light pulses are delivered. Patients might feel some stinging sensations but this is often well-tolerated. The sensation might feel like a rubber band against the skin. The entire process takes about 30 minutes when treating the face.
