The Skinny on Microdermabrasion

microdermabrasionWhile microdermabrasion is not as popular as Botox, this facial rejuvenation procedure deserves the same amount of attention as the popular injectable. Many of our patients are not aware that microdermabrasion is quite effective in its own right.

How microdermabrasion works
Microdermabrasion is a controlled, non-invasive method that removes dead skin cells in the outermost layers of the skin to stimulate collagen growth in the middle and deeper layers. Collagen is a protein serving multiple functions in the body, one of which is keeping your skin plump, supple, and resilient.

During the procedure, a handheld device is applied into the skin’s top layers. The entire treatment takes roughly 30 minutes for the face and 20 minutes for the neck.

Who should have microdermabrasion
Microdermabrasion, whether it’s a single treatment or multiple sessions, can address the following issues:

  • The appearance of enlarged pores
  • Mild to moderate acne scarring
  • Dry, dull skin
  • Fine lines and wrinkles
  • Hyperpigmentation issues such as sun spots or age spots

Individuals with highly sensitive skin should not have microdermabrasion. For more information on microdermabrasion and other facial rejuvenation alternatives, give us a call. We’d love to hear from you!
