I discovered the Global Medical Foundation purely by accident while at a cosmetic training course in Iowa late last year. One of the lead physicians for this noble cause was also learning new techniques in cosmetic enhancement. When he gave our group the information and said this years trip would be to Nepal (Kathmandu) and Tibet, he got my attention. I had not done a mission since the 1980’s and felt it was time for me to go based on my age and status at this time of life.
While in Kathmandu, which is very poor to begin with, I was able to see another side of life. I was able to put my efforts forth through the Outpatient Medical and Gyn Clinics, helping the needy in the most limited of ways, but something is better than nothing. The Group was able to visit another area in Nepal, Pokhara, as well as Tibet, and see the Podala Palace where the Dali Lamas are entombed. As well as Mount Everest.
The outpouring of gratitude and respect from the poor people of Nepal was genuine as well as wonderful. As you know a massive 7.8 earthquake hit Kathmandu and everest causing great death and destruction. Our foundation will be making a good well gesture sending funds for the hospital we worked for when we were there. Next February the Global Medical Foundation and myself will be heading for another mission to the Phillippines.
The new international friends I’ve made both professional and socially will last a lifetime!
